KELLY SLATER AT PIPELINE

Having been crowned Pipeline Master a whopping six times, which included an invincible three-peat run (’94-’96), Kelly Slater holds the greatest professional record at surfing’s most prestigious wave. This feat is quite remarkable considering Slater hails from the playful conditions of Florida; where waves are in stark contrast to those rumbling over in Hawaii. As is the case for Slater, you’ve got to make Hawaii a home away from home to master it. That’s why you’ll find the champ spending quality time there every season. Here’s recently surfaced footage of Slater putting in such time at Backdoor and Pipeline during the 2008 and 2009 Hawaiian winters.

Kelly Slater was spied surfing at various spots around Sydney last month. The infamous ‘Ours’, located off Kurnell National Park, is one such break the 10-time World Champion turned up at. The wave (if you can call it that) is a fast, ledgey and powerfully heavy slab. Things can get very ugly if you don’t know what you’re doing there.
