SESSION SAVER - DING REPAIR PUTTY - REVIEW
Surfboard dings. What nasty, pesky little things. Personally, like haemorrhoids or an acquaintance in need, I like to just pretend they’re not there. Living a lie, I try acting as though everything’s ok – that my surfboard isn’t taken in gallons of water like a fat kid at a gravy convention. It’s gotten so bad I now virtually need a forklift to lower my bloated board down to the shoreline. I’m too embarrassed and too cheap to take it to a shaper, and too clueless and lazy to attempt the intricate microsurgery-like process of fixing it myself.
Fortunately, we’re discovered a product that suits my Gen Y deficiencies.
SESSION SAVER promises to be
a monkey-proof, convenient and non-messy way to repair dings. Before I brake out into BOOM-SHUCKA-LUCKA’S!, I thought it wise
to pass this find over to our in-house surf-product tester for a no
nonsense review – that’s right, he’s back - The Prince of Product, Guru
of Gear and Sultan of all surf-related stuff – Mr Luke ‘Bezza’ Berry.

BEZZA: Well, who out there likes to
fix dings? Certainly not yours truly!! – with all the resins, hardeners and Q-cell – it’s altogether complicated, not to mention messy.
Why can’t they just be filled with some sort of putty and hey presto! – it’s fixed!!?
Well, now they can.
A company in Hawaii has come up with a shape-able
putty in a tube that dries hard within 20 minutes. It can be moulded to fix
cracks, scrapes or holes and comes at a very cheap price. Its
called SESSION SAVER and the name says it all.
SESSION SAVER cures rock-hard in any weather conditions and even under water. Further, it solidifies to a “fiberglass white” colour, so from afar your board won’t look like its harbouring World War III battle scars.
Bezza: "What ding?"
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
STEP 1 - Slice a piece of the green putty off.
STEP 2 - kneed the putty with the fingers until it goes an off white colour - this makes it easier to shape.
STEP 3 - Fill the crack or hole with the putty, it should start to stick within a minute or so, make sure it is fully covering the crack or hole.
STEP 4 - Shape the putty so it fits the shape of the surfboard
STEP 5 - To ensure a smooth surface, apply water or saliva to fingers & rub along the putty, this should smooth out any roughness.
VERDICT:
- Overall the product performed really well,
- Maybe took a little bit of time to knead the putty properly.
- Perhaps wonder if it is worth putting a bit more information and guidelines on the packaging.
- Solidified very well – no need for sunlight exposure and is even waterproof – very convenient.
