QUIKSILVER - CYPHER MASSIVE BOARDSHORTS

RRP: $119.95

Quiksilver Cypher massive are Quiksilvers elite technical boardshort featuring technologies like the exclusive Diamond Dobby DLX ™ fabric, welded inseams and a new innovative double-up closure system. They say the mastermind behind it all is Kelly Slater, a man who likely knows what comfort and performance mean out in the lineup.

PRO'S: Super comfortable boardshorts, lightweight and the Diamond Dobby material feels good on the pins.
CON'S:
The Diamond Dobby material has little to no stretch, they use a stretch side-panel that isn't as effective as some of the other technical boardshorts.

BOARDSHORTS FEATURES OVERVIEW

   •   Lycra hem to minimise friction on the legs
   •   Silicon laced drawcord
   •   Neofly

QUIKSILVER CYPHER MASSIVE BOARDSHORTS REVIEW

Quiksilver have had the Diamond Dobby DLX ™ fabric exclusively for a number of years now, with no other brand trekking down this path. While the material is super comfortable to wear, dries very quickly and is very light, it doesn't have the same stretch characteristics as a lot of the competition. The design of the boardshorts are great and they're up there with the best for technical features. They've created one of our favourite pockets on the market and are utilising seam free technology. Their recent addition of the 'double-up closure' system (pictures below) is great and works a treat for those that find their waistline changing over time. Overall, it's the exclusive Diamond Dobby DLX ™ fabric that keep these boardshorts in technical market. It would be great if they could find a way to increase the stretch characteristics.

SEAMS: Mixture of both sewn and welded seams. The sewn sections are only small and there were no instances of rashing during the testing period.

MATERIAL: A patented and exclusive
Diamond Dobby DLX ™ fabric, that's lightweight, dries super fast and feels great on dry and wet.

STRETCH: In comparison to the rest of the group the Quiksilver Cypher Massive boardshorts don't have a lot of flex. An area that should not be seen as a make or break on purchasing decisions, but with a little more flex these boardshorts would be hard to beat.

QUIKSILVER CYPHER MASSIVE BOARDSHORTS STYLE:

LOGO PLACEMENT:
No mistaking them for another brand, with the word plastered through the material.
PANELS: The side panels have a thin flexible piece sewn in (to offer some flexibility) that unfortunately breaks the seamless construction of the boardshorts.
LENGTH: They come down just over the knee.

TESTERS QUOTES:

"I've always wanted to test out the Diamond Dobby material since they started promoting it. Did they live up to expectation? Well, they're damn comfy, I'll give them that, but I didn't realise they had little to no stretch. Sure, I've surfed in my life without stretch materials, but having a stretch material allows me to skate more comfortably, ride a pushy without pin stranglers, and wear them to the odd yoga session. Aside from the stretch, these were one of my favourites from the group." - COLT

"Only one NOT to have the stretch material. Has Diamond Dobby technology that feels great. Could do with upgrading the pocket design." - BEZZA
