O'NEILL HYPERFREAK BOARDSHORTS REVIEW

The O'Neill Hyperfreak boardshorts are what you'd expect, nothing short of amazing. While they might not have every single bell and whistle, it's their super stretch and lightweight material that make them one of the top pairs in the mesurf boardshorts guide. Unlike some of the other boardshorts that use different materials throughout the boardshort, the O'Neill Hyperfreaks use the one hyperstretch fabric. The boardshorts fit well, have plenty of give and feel great on. There are a few things they could tidy up such as the loose pocket (this can be annoying when you've got a pocket full of rattling change or your phone that swings around when cruising the streets on your skateboard). If they could find a way to remove the sewn areas and make them 100% welded seams, they would have a pair of boardshorts that would be very hard to beat.

SEAMS: Mixture of both sewn and welded. The sewn section is only small and there were no instances of rashing being caused.

MATERIAL: Super lightweight and breathable boardshorts. Fast dry material and comfortable on the pins.

STRETCH: One of the stretchiest of the group. The material also springs back to its original position very quickly, which is key for longevity.

OTHER: Cool credit card styled wax comb that actually works a treat.

LOGO PLACEMENT:
O'Neill logo embroidered on left leg, Hyperfreak logo near pocket.

TESTERS QUOTES:

"Super light, super comfy and super stretchy. One of my favourite pairs from the group. My annoyance however was the pocket and felt that they could have made this a lot better through one extra seam. My phone would sway and move around when skating around town in them. Something for next season perhaps? One of the best in the marketplace." - COLT

"The Hyperfreak by O'neil, are the best boardshort by far in my opinion. Super comfy, great longer cut in the leg and look good. Awesome for working in, sleeping in, training in, surfing in...living in! It seems to have a larger waist for a 34 so try next size down when u buy. Pocket would be better suited on front instead of back. Awesome shorts!" - PHAT DAVE

"One of my  favourites. Feel really good to surf in. Why do they look the same as last season?"
- BEZZA

  • ARCHY SURF FILM REVIEW [11.Jan.2010] Category: Other

Archy is about the LA surf scene in the 80s and 90s and the pioneering affect of Archy's rebellious youth (both in the water, in terms of his ground breaking aerials, and out of the water). But it also ends up being totally about why this guy, Archy, didn't end up being massive in surfing, like Martin Potter, despite the fact that he was apparently so frickin good.
