TIKI HEAT PADS & HEAT BELT FOR WINTER SURFING

Tiki have been producing surf wetsuits since the 60's for the freezing waters of the UK.(read an interview with TIKI here) This year they've dropped an innovative idea we think has merit. When you think 'heated wetsuit' you think of Rip Curl's H-Bomb and battery packs. Well Tiki also have a 'heated' option out there, and this one doesn't include batteries and can be used with any other surf wetsuit brand.

The Tiki heat pad is a very clever design, offering a re-usable wetsuit heat pad that is activated by the click of a button. The heat pads are best placed into a wetsuit kidney belt as show above that will help retain the heat as long as possible, as well as stop them being in direct contact with the body.

Once activated the wetsuit heat pad will heat to around 50 degrees celcius and retain heat for around 45min. After you've used them, you simply boil up some water, drop in your 'used' heat pad and bring it back to it's original state (clear liquid) to be used again. One of the best selling points with this concept is that it's reusable.

We've been playing with Tiki's heat pads for the past few weeks and think they're awesome. The waters however haven't been cold enough to put them through their 'heating' paces, but we believe they'll come in handy very soon. Not only that, but these heat pads have loads of other applications where you want a little extra warmth.

We'll have a full review up soon on how these things work, what they do, where you can get them and whether or not every surfer should have them in their winter artillery.
