The Alaia is a name that's been around since pre 20th century, and is now making a come back. The biggest barrier with the boards has been that they're finless, they're made of wood, don't float too well, hard to ride and not designed for performance surfing. Well that's all about to change...

Jeff Beck is the head shaper for Ninelights surfboards and is working on using today's materials and designs to work towards a new-gen style of Alaia. These new boards allow surfers to pick up the Alaia riding quicker and push to new limits.

We caught up with Jeff to have a chat about these new designs, the materials used, who they're for and why you should have one in the quiver. Click her for the interview.
