FRANK 151 | CHAPTER 38 | SURF

EVERYONE LOVES FRANK

Before I venture much further into this release, let me tell you a little about FRANK 151:
"Created ten years ago by Mike and Stephen Malbon, Frank151 Media Group has grown to become the voice of today’s trendsetting youth. At the heart of Frank151 is the Frank Book, a quarterly youth-culture publication that has hosted contributing artists and guest editors such as Shepard  Fairey, Lenny Kravitz, Jason Lee, Mister Cartoon & Estevan Oriol (SA Studios), the Marley family, De La Soul, and many others. Several proprietary networks are built around the Frank Book"

So what has that got to do with surf? Well their recent chapter (#38) is written by Herbie Fletcher ?to cover the history of surf from the perspective of a veteran influencer. With photographs, artwork and stories from Herbie’s personal collection, as well as contributions from an extensive network of pros and fanatics, Frank Book Chapter 38 is a pocket-sized funk book that will teach you something new.

Hang on a sec...Are you asking who is Herbie Fletcher? Let me go back a step...
"Surf legend Herbie Fletcher has carved out an impressive reputation over the last half-century, honing his skills as a surfboard designer, filmmaker, business entrepreneur, artist, and of course, big wave rider. Growing up in Pasadena, California, Herbie decided at an early age that he wanted to dedicate his life to surfing.

A constant innovator, Herbie is responsible for bringing back the longboard surf craze in the early ’70s, creating Astrodeck traction pads, and introducing the world to tow-in riding. He started documenting his friends and fellow wave enthusiasts during what was to become the tube-riding revolution of the ’80s. Herbie edited these “home movies” into the magic of the Wave Warriors video series, considered a must-see for any serious surfer.

As an artist, Herbie’s art boards, custom sculpture and photographic artwork are in the collections of Julian Schnabel, Dennis Hopper, Bruce Weber, and many other celebrities and professional surfers of note. A master of so many disciplines, Herbie has recently focused on developing a distinct style of designs and logos for surfboards and tees."

As discussed, Herbie Fletcher is the guest editor of FRANK 151 Chapter 38. So now you have two new names and their lives to add to your repertoire of worldly knowledge. So back to the point of all this....

Chapter 38 of FRANK 151 looks rad, with some awesome interviews, imagery and it's FREE. You can download a pdf copy from the FRANK 151 website just by signing up to their database. We've been through it and it's cool, not as cool as a  block of ice wrapped around the testes on this 44 degree day I'm enduring right now while I type this, but pretty cool. Hit the link below for a ride on the FRANK gravy train.
