QUIKSILVER COMMITS TO ONE-LEGGED STAR
HUNTINGTON BEACH, California/USA (Saturday, May 8, 2011) – Quiksilver has certainly banked on Dane Reynolds bouncing back from injury. The surf brand giant has just re-signed the 25-yer-old star to a long-term (6-year) contact, despite Reynolds still struggling to fully recover from career-threatening knee surgery.
Reynolds made his long-awaited return to competitive surfing at last weeks Nike 6.0 Lowers Pro, but the American is the first to admit his knee is far from its best.
“There definitely felt like there was less flexibility going,” said Reynolds of his knee following his first heat in 150 days. “That was the hardest I’ve pushed it so it might swell up a bit tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow” Reynolds would crash out of the event amassing a grand heat total of just 2.70 out of 20.

Regardless of question marks surrounding their star’s knee, Quiksilver today announced that it has extended and expanded its sponsorship of Reynolds reaching an agreement earlier this week on the new global deal includes the development and design of signature products.
“I’ve ridden for Quiksilver for 8 years now and the relationship has just gotten more functional and fun,” says Dane Reynolds. “I’m really happy with the people I’m working with and I’m really pleased that they offered to re-sign me. I think we’re in a position to make some rad stuff and have a ton of fun while doing it.”
“Re-signing Dane for another six years is monumental,” said Craig Stevenson, President of Quiksilver Americas. “Dane’s incredible surfing, personal style and inspiring attitude will help drive our brand forward in many exciting ways. We are very eager to expand our relationship with such an incredible athlete who influences so many young-minded people all over the world."
We look forward to continue working with Dane, collaborating with him on interesting projects, and watching him on the 2011 ASP World Tour, especially at the Quiksilver Pro New York this September.”
Reynolds picked up the ASP ‘Rookie of the Year’ award following his first year on tour in 2008. In 2009 he picked up the ASP ‘Most Improved Award’. Reynolds has also been lorded for his free surfing exploits, being a past winner of the Surfer Poll Awards ‘Best Male Performance in a Video’ and ‘Video of the Year’.
This week Reynolds will continue his road to full recovery when he makes his first appearance in a World Tour event this year at stop No.3, the Billabong Pro Rio.
