FEATURE SESSION | BELLS BEACH 25/08/10

BELLS BEACH, Victoria
(Wednesday 25th August) - Bells has been frothatively pumping the last few days. Surf photog, Chris ‘Pesty’ McConville was on hand yesterday to capture the famed right-hander ringing to the tune of 6-foot plus. It was cold, the sweep was gnarly and the only time crew weren't paddling to hold position was when they were on a wave. Out dominating, local veteran and legendary shaper, Maurice Cole, was all too happy to put on a Bells clinic for those in the Winki bleachers. - micholas

CHRIS McCONVILLE - PHOTOGRAPHER
“I moved around a fair bit, but the best shots of bells were captured from the Winki lookout. I also spent some time up on the cliff overlooking Winki.

Earlier in the morning guys were scoring big barrels, I'm told 5 seconds +. Apparently the vibe out in the water was electric with crew calling each other into filthy bombs while hoots and cheers rang out as guys charged through open caverns.

Some absolute thumpers were being ridden all the way through Lowers and to the close-out zone way down in the valley - it’s a long paddle home.

The crowd was pretty good. Only the die-hards were out in the water. For some reason all the crew who tend to hassle out in the water were busy this day.

Maurice Cole was charging. The oldest guy in the water was riding the shortest board! 6'4" when loads of guys were on 7' + guns. Maurice was taking off about 10m deeper than everyone else and was making most waves, flying down the line and pulling into meaty pits - was great to see."

fiberflex is a relatively new surfboard material and construction that is infiltrating the world of surf. For those that haven't heard of the 'parabolic' rail design, or the fiberflex technology it's those boards you see that carry black rails and no stringers. They're stealth looking, super light and usually have someone ripping riding them.
